Roundup River Ranch near Gypsum, which offers free programs to seriously ill children 17 and younger and their families, is celebrating its 10-year anniversary and also will welcome its 4,000th camper this summer.
Roundup River Ranch was founded in 2006 by Alison Knapp, a local philanthropist, who followed Paul Newman’s vision and dream of bringing a Hole in the Wall Camp (now SeriousFun Children’s Network). As a member of SeriousFun Children’s Network, Roundup River Ranch upholds programmatic, medical and financial standards and is accredited by the American Camp Association.
Children who visit the ranch are not be able to attend other camps due to the severity of their illnesses. Roundup River Ranch also is affiliated with Children’s Hospital Colorado and other medical facilities across the Rocky Mountain region.
“Roundup River Ranch is a very special and healing place,” said Ruth B. Johnson, president & CEO of the ranch. “We are grateful to be able to offer a carefree, fun atmosphere for children with serious illnesses and their families, at no cost to them, to experience the simple joys of childhood and togetherness.”
With tin representing the traditional 10-year anniversary milestone, a tin and mixed material tile mural will be created over the anniversary year to celebrate Roundup River Ranch’s history. Ranch volunteers, partners, campers and their families, camp ambassadors, celebrities and more will be invited to decorate their own tile to be included in the final murals, which will be compiled and artistically arranged by local artist Britten. A sampling of the tiles will be unveiled at Roundup River Ranch’s annual A Grateful Harvest event, which will be held at camp on Aug. 13, 2016. A completed mural will be gifted to Children’s Hospital Colorado to be displayed in the hospital in October.
Roundup River Ranch relies on the support of friends to ensure that children with serious illnesses experience the simple joys of childhood — at no cost.
